DISPERSAL SALE

Whenever we have seen a “Dispersal Sale”, our first thought and comments are “WHY”!!
This page will hopefully answer all of your questions about WHY and HOW we came to the decision to make this big move in our life.  It will also explain some of what has gone into our breeding program and hopefully show you how hard we have worked on our program, and how it will benefit your program.  We are open to questions, and discussions about any of these horses.  Please feel free to e-mail or call.

ALL the Miniature Horses are for sale.  This has been a very hard decision since we always have favorites.  There are a few, who may still not sell because we think so highly of them, but please talk to us and we may come to our senses.

Chris started in Florida with the Miniatures in 2002, after a tragic car accident where her only daughter was killed.  Chris was also in the accident and was advised, due to injuries, that she should not ride again.   She had been raising Appaloosas and saw an ad for a Miniature black & white Leopard Appaloosa mare.  She drove across the state of Florida and brought her home.  The mare was “Flaby’s Pequita”, 100% Falabella, and imported.  A very nice, first miniature horse purchase!  Unfortunately Pequita was never able to conceive and have a foal.  Nevertheless, that started the switch from full size, to MINIaturized sized Appaloosa breeding program.

Now a short explanation of WHY.  Chris never listens to the doctor and did begin riding after the accident.  Now time has carried on with a lot of life changes.   The mini horse program needs to go on to the shows.  The full size horse program is in the same position.  The decision has been the full size horses. Chris says it is very hard to admit that she has gotten older, and just doesn’t have the energy for everything.  Both herds have our divided attention and it’s not fair to them, or us.  This is a main factor in our selling the ranch.  Chris says, “Farmers are crazy”.  They never have a day off and they work 24 – 7.  We want to retire from the retirement job we bought.  We may even board our horses.

We are through the WHY, now we’ll discuss our breeding program.  Moving from a full-size Appaloosa breeding program to a miniature horse program, most of the issues were very similar.  The full-size Foundation Appaloosa’s, were known for short stubby tails, lack of manes, and a need for refinement.  The mini Appaloosa’s were known for the same issues.

In the search for mares and a stallion, Chris found a herd dispersal of her own in Louisville, KY. Five original mares were purchased from the Fluhrs.  During that time, several stallions were research, and two were seriously considered.  PORTENTO,  Black & white blanketed Appaloosa.  AMHA/AMHR/100% Falabella, and DOUBLE A APACHE KID”, AMHA/AMHR, who appeared to be a Chestnut few-spot Appaloosa.   Double A Apache Kid’s” conformation was refined, and his foals exhibited that refinement.   PORTENTO”   did not show the refinement.  I did love his look and color, but “Kid” with his refinement, and my believing he was a true few-spot, and a 100% color producer, won and he became the herd stallion.

The stallion Portento was still admired, and when two of his fillys were offered for sale, both were purchased.  One of those mares is now offered for sale.  Moon is  an “own” daughter ofPortento". The second mare has been sold, but her daughter is one of our favorites and “Ember” is also offered.   Both mares have a very high percentage of the Falabella breeding.

Our Herd stallion Double A Apache Kid” died in 2008.  His last foal is offered for sale.  She is DMH Apache Kid’s Last Kiss.  Kissy is a very nice filly.   Her color was tested via DNA and although she appears Sorrel, she is actually homozygous for black and positive for the Silver gene. She is a Silver Bay APPALOOSA. This is a good time to talk about “Kid’s” true color.   Several years ago, I was told that one of his fillys, who was Silver Dapple, had been DNA tested and came back Homozygous for black.  If “Kid” had been a Chestnut, he could not have produced a foal with the black gene from his side.   Here we are again with the same situation.  Kid’s papers showed him as Chestnut.  He was never DNA tested for color, so upon researching the foals he produced, there was a high incidence of black or bay.  We now believe that he was actually a Silver Bay himself.    Please also check out “Kissy’s” dam, Roz’s Mariquita”.   “Mari” is a very nice mare and was a great mother.   “Mari" is Falabella Blend registered, as is her daughter  “Kissy”, who is triple registered.

We are offering another daughter of “Kid’s”, DMH Apache Dawn”.   “Dawn” has been Chris’s favorite!  If she were a full size horse, she would be Chris’s ride horse.  She looks the part, only “short”.  “Dawn” was sent to the Amish as a late 2 year old to be broke to drive.  The children used her as a ride pony to get to school.  She was only started with driving, but there is a reservation with a mini driving trainer in Oklahoma City, OK, to be finished.  “Dawn” is a flashy mare, and was the favorite with the 4-H kids.  Her photo shows her over jumping a jump at a show.  We have kept her very busy and never bred.    We know that she will do awesome and clean up showing.  There is one concern.  She is so close to 34” we personally would hate to take her to an AMHA show, and have her papers pulled.   Our advice would be to keep with our plan of AMHR shows only.    She is too nice a mare, to risk losing her AMHA papers.   She is one of our two favorite horses, she and Portento’s Ember”  Both mares are top show prospects.   But that is OUR opinion! Please look at what we have worked so hard to put together and produce, and find one of your own to love!

There are two more mares that need to be mentioned, Six Gems Spots Satin & Lace” and DMH Miss Liberty Buckeroo”.  “Gem" is a beautiful mare and proven broodmare, who produces really nice small foals.  This mare is an OWN-DAUGHTER, of Chris’s all time favorite and well known stallion, Six Gem’s Hot to Spot”.  We loved that breeding so much, that when “Kid” died, we replaced him with nephew of “Gem’s” and a  grandson  of “Six Gems Hot to Spot.  Leading us into our Stallions and stud colts, but first we’ll talk about Miss Liberty Buckeroo”. She is a doll!!  She thinks she is a dog and is the friendliest mini we have ever owned.  “Liberty” is an Appaloosa Buckeroo.  She is black with Appaloosa characteristics and small.  We love the Buckeroo lines and were excited to find a small Palomino Buckeroo and Little Kings bred stud colt who should be going to work this 2010 year.

STALLIONS AND STUD COLTS

Six Gem’s Spotted Creationis our herd stallion.  We already discussed how and why he replaced “Kid”.    “Creation”, has produced a beautiful black colt, with a big blanket, DMH Dark  Smokey Creation,  and a nice small Buckskin colt, DMH Dark Whiskey Creation”.    He will never produce a chestnut, because he is homozygous for black.  Please see “Creations” page for more information.

“DMH Buckeroos Golden Dream” was found because we wanted to down size some of our larger AMHA horses.  We have been pushing the limit on 34” and did not want to go over.  Plus, the Appaloosas seem to be larger and we believed the smaller bloodline, especially our favorite Buckeroo, would accomplish this task.  “Dream” has not bred any mares to date.  He was going to cover at least two mares this 2010 year.  You cannot ask for better breeding.  A cross of the Boones lines and Little Kings lines.  Dream is very friendly.  Make our loss, be your gain!

Please contact us for more information.  We hope this has helped.  Thank you.
